Storytime with Paul Dore
Welcome to the second season of Storytime with Paul Dore. Each episode of the podcast includes two segments: a short story – either recorded live or in-studio – and Paul’s Picks where I tell you about something I’m reading, listening to or watching.
It’s tough being a single person in the modern world. Recorded live off the floor at a recent Stories We Don’t Tell event, I share with the audience (and by extension with you) three ways that I have gone about trying to meet my partner in crime.
Spoiler: it doesn’t go well.
Around the time the second season of Master of None came out last year, I went on a real Aziz Ansari bender. Being a fan of his for a while, I’m not sure why I didn’t pick up his book, Modern Romance, sooner.
Together with NYU sociologist Eric Klinenberg, Ansari explores how dating has changed over the decades and what new challenges are presented to us single people in this digital age. As you could probably guess from the story you just heard, a lot of the information in the book resonated deeply with me.
