The Inside Edge

Where I take you behind-the-scenes of this week’s @SkatingPj Podcast.

It was the 1998/99 season whet I first met Jian Tong and his pair partner and now wife Qing Pang. These two were the new kids on the block and were the follow up to the success that had already been happening for team mates and eventual Olympic champions Xue Shen and Hongbo Zhao. Pang and Tong would go on to an extraordinary career themselves which included an Olympic silver medal in 2010, two world titles in 2006 and 2010 and five Four Continents titles. It was a treat to watch Pang and Tong as they evolved with their skating. I am a fan!

The World Championships in March 2017 in Helsinki were the perfect chance for me to catch up with Jian Tong who was in town to do some commentary. In this revealing podcast, Jian and I talk about his career in figure skating, what he is doing now with his skating school ( and life as a new Dad.

Whether you are a long time fan or JIan Tong’s story is new to you – this podcast is one you will want to hear.

Where I highlight a video related to this episode.

In this case, it is Qing Pang and Jian Tong’s long program from the first ISU Four Continents Championships in Halifax in 1999. At 19 years old, they were only at the start of what would be a very long and successful career.
