Storytime with Paul Dore

If you’re an Open Kwong Dore Podcast subscriber, you might be confused, but please don’t be. Here at Open Kwong Dore Media, we’ve had this evolution in the works for a while. Podcasting is still a new medium and we wanted to switch things up a bit. So, every two weeks, I (Paul) will be sharing a short story with you as well as a segment called ‘Paul’s Picks’ where I tell you about something I am reading, listening to or watching.

If you’d like to hear more details about the reasons why we switched up the format of the podcast, check out this blog HERE.

The Story

Getting a haircut is an intimate experience and it’s challenging to find someone you can trust. This story is about Bernardo, an old Italian barber who forced me into an existential crisis during a haircut.

Paul’s Pick

Trapped is about a remote town in Iceland where a police detective desperately tries to solve a murder as a powerful storm descends and threatens to cut them off from the mainland. Produced in Iceland and currently showing on Netflix, Trapped is another entry into my obsession with European crime dramas. These shows take their time, often with shots of solitary characters brooding about what is going on. Trapped has an inventive take on the genre and will chill you to the bone, and not just because there’s a lot of snow.
