The Inside Edge: where I take you behind-the-scenes of this week’s @SkatingPj Podcast.
This was a fun one for me! Before leaving for the ISU World Figure Skating Championships in Helsinki, Paul and I agreed that we would come back and de-brief in a podcast episode. We once again both found ourselves at Worlds – I was covering the event for CBC and Paul was there as a guest of the International Skating Union. We’re both skating types so being able to talk ‘shop’ was a treat!
Even a week after the fact, the outstanding skating was still fresh in our minds. We were hoping to talk for about 15 – 20 minutes. Guess what? Time flew and this ended up being a 38 minute conversation. There were so many incredible performances we had to discuss!
Whether you were at Worlds or not, figure skating fan or not, we had a great conversation that covered each discipline and much more.
The Outside Edge: where I highlight videos from across the skating world and bring you a little bonus from somewhere on YouTube or beyond.
In this case, I wanted to show you the free program that Yuzuru Hanyu put down in Helsinki. He was in 5th after the short program about 9 points out of first. He came, he skated, he conquered with a world’s record in the free skate. What I loved most about this program was the expression on his face when he finished his skate. It says it all.
