At the beginning of September, Paul and I had the privilege to host the very first late night show all about figure skating called ‘As the Blade Turns’. During the Skate Canada High Performance Camp, the organization wanted to celebrate the people who have donated to the Skate Canada Funds. Together, we planned on presenting an event with Canada’s top skaters in a way that you haven’t seen them before.
Starting with a monologue similar to what you might see on The Tonight Show, we then sat behind our desk and invited guests to sit on our couch for an interview and some fun. You might have heard of some of those guests: Tessa Virtue & Scott Moir, Gabrielle Daleman, Kaitlyn Weaver & Andrew Poje, Meagan Duhamel & Eric Radford and Patrick Chan.
The event was a fun-filled night where the skaters answered questions about their upcoming season, as well as played some games such as: What Were You Thinking, Rituals and Rewards, Ice Dance Headbanz and Jeopard-Skate. This episode of the @SkatingPj Podcast features an abbreviated version of all the interview segments.
It was a night to remember and we would like to thank Skate Canada for the opportunity to host such an amazing event, to the skaters who went along for the ride and to the donors for supporting the organization and its athletes. Special thanks to the As the Blade Turns Orchestra headed up by Arlene Paculan.
As Skate Canada says: “You can make a significant, sustainable impact on the future of skating in Canada. From supporting Skate Canada’s vision of inspiring all Canadians to embrace the joy of skating to direct financial support for tomorrow’s world and Olympics champions, your generosity will help Canadians own the ice for generations to come. We OWN THE ICE. Your support will help Skate Canada keep it that way.”
