The Inside Edge is where I take you behind-the-scenes of this week’s @SkatingPj Podcast. I cannot tell you how many times I said to Scott Moir that I wanted to interview his mom, Alma Moir. Frankly, neither one of us thought it would ever happen and yet here we are ;). I prepared a carefully worded Facebook message outlining all the reasons why I wanted to interview Alma, only to approach her last week in St. John’s and find that she hadn’t read my message. I really thought that talking to her ‘Mom to Mom’ about the challenges of raising children, not to mention talented children, would strike a chord with so many.
I wasn’t wrong.
To hear Alma talk about family, skating, coaching and being a skater herself, along with the pride she has in her three sons, had us both teary-eyed on a couple of occasions. This is a personal story from a woman who has always been more interested in creating good people than simply just good (and great) skaters.
If you have ever been with Alma, what you will notice first is the quick smile and the warm heart. I promised her that if she didn’t feel comfortable at the end of this interview, I would simply press ‘delete’ on my recorder. I am so glad I didn’t have to. Here’s Danny, Charlie and Scott’s Mom: Alma Moir.
The Outside Edge is where I highlight videos from across the skating world and bring you a little bonus from somewhere on YouTube or beyond. If you know the Moirs at all, you already know that they are a tight-knit family from Ilderton, Ontario – an equally tight-knit community.
