Pj and Carol Lane first met at the very beginning of their respective coaching careers. Carol had been an international ice dancer for Great Britain before becoming a coach. Her coaching work has brought her international recognition with students who have won national titles and international medals as well as competing at both the Olympic Winter Games and the ISU World Figure Skating championships. These students include recent Skate America ice dance competitors Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier among many others.
Carol, husband Jon Lane and coaching partner Juris Razgulaevs are the principal coaches behind the Ice Dance Elite program which runs out of the Scarboro Figure Skating Club.
Along with a killer sense of humour, Carol’s candour and insight has made her a very popular commentator for CBC Sports’ figure skating coverage. In this interesting conversation which runs the gamut from A to Z, Carol opens up about her own story as well as her particular coaching philosophy.
